Mathare Youths Demonstrate over the missing NYS SACCO MONEY |
Mathare Nairobi---- Mathare youths who were in former NYS and Kazi Kwa Vijana program went for a demonstration to urge the Ministry of Devolution to act over what they termed as 'Money stolen directly from them.'
Youths lamented that they have been seeking for answers from SACCO officials but no one has given them satisfactory answers as to why they can't have their money back.
Money in question was deducted directly from their weekly earnings---- which they were promised to be given upon termination of the contract.
Mathare Youths Erect barricades Along Juja Road in Demo over the missing NYS SACCO Money |
Months after NYS and Kazi Kwa Vijana program was terminated over corruption allegations in the Devolution Ministry, the youths have not yet benefited from the SACCO.
The demo turned chaotic when the idle youths joined the demonstrating group and hijacked a peaceful walk to the SACCO Offices.
They barricaded Juja Road and started hurling stones at the vehicles. People were also robbed in the process.
It was a saddening scene to see female youths being in the forefront in looting and robbing innocent people who were got in the mix.
Police Officers talking to the representative of Mathare Youths |
Police officers were forced to use life bullets to disperse the lawless youths.
One person was shot and injured but was rushed to a nearby medical facility for first Aid, before being transported to another hospital through The MSF -Doctors without Borders’ ambulance.
Good news is that the area is now calm, but one thing remains—Mathare youths should reform and learn to use non-violent means in solving personal matters.
