The late Fidel Odinga |
Well, a lot was said about this late young man and mostly labeled him as the way ward man who was ready to face anything, use his power to get whatever that he wanted and no law could touch him. Now in his death, we are baffled to understand him much better.
It is sad that during his prime time, the Kenyan media was so blind about his great achievements. They were always ready to report all bad happenings around him but little did they say about those great deeds he did for Kenya and for the society as whole. Is that what news is all about, tarnishing the name of a prominent person for the company's gains?
I never had a time to research about Fidel Odinga's life until I heard about death. Yes! I was one of those people who were misled by the Kenyan Media houses about the CORD leader's son. In my point of view, they painted a picture of the beast that lived and walked among us. They made me believe that Fidel was only good in causing havoc in public, partying, and enjoying every bit of life without caring about his future.
The stories that revolved around him now are questionable after it has emerged that:
1.
He was a good business person who had invested heavily
in Kenya,
2.
He was running a sponsorship program for less privileged
students in the society
3.
He loved his people so much and was always ready to
stand for them.
4.
He was a
sponsor of the rugby team in his rural home.
5.
He was so close to the leaders from all political divide
and some actually seek his advice.
Should we ask why the Kenya Media was so interested in Fidel Odinga’s negative lifestyle? I guess we lack professionalism in handling stories that emerge in our midst. A good story should be informative, yes! However, not to the extent of painting wrong images in people’s minds.
The late Fidel Castro Odinga will be laid to rest on Saturday 10th, 2015 at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga cemetery, Bondo.
